Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon and Drug Related Charges CK16005671 / CK16005676
Yesterday morning, around 10:15 a.m. an officer on general patrol was conducting speed enforcement at the intersection of Talbot Trail and Four Rod Road when he observed a truck travelling 93 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver falsely identified himself. Through investigation, the officer identified the man and learned that he was currently suspended from driving for unpaid fines and remedial measures. The driver was arrested and upon searching the vehicle, brass knuckles and marihuana were seized. A query of the driver further revealed that he was bound by conditions not to communicate with his passenger, possess unlawful drugs, substances or weapons. The passenger was fully aware of the driver’s conditions and was in the truck on his own free, therefore he was also arrested for facilitating the breach. The truck was impounded for seven (7) days.
The driver, a 52-year-old Raleigh Township man has been charged with speeding, two counts of driving while under suspension, obstruct police, possession of a prohibited weapon, four counts of failing to comply and drug possession.
The passenger, a 44-year-old Camden Township man has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, two counts of facilitating the offence of failing to comply and drug possession. Both men have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Break and Enter in Chatham CK16005760 / CK16005759
At 2:20 a.m. this morning, police responded to an alarm at Guardian Pharmacy on King Street West. The front window was smashed, however no entry was gained. Damage was estimated at $1000. Minutes later around 2:30 a.m. police responded to a break and enter at Richmond Pharmacy. Upon arrival, police learned that the front door was shattered and an unknown quantity of prescription medication was stolen. Damage was estimated at $400. Through investigation, police believe the suspect is a white man who was wearing a blue hoodie, light coloured jeans, gloves and black and white running shoes.

Police Investigating Suspicious Fire CK16005761
Shortly after 2:30 a.m. this morning, emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Charing Cross Road in Cedar Springs. The building was evacuated as the fire department extinguished the blaze. Through investigation, police learned that seven of the eight units were currently occupied. No one was injured. Damage is estimated at $80,000.

Man Charged with Assault CK16005683
Yesterday morning around 11:50 a.m. a woman was sitting in the driver’s seat of her common-law’s truck while he tried to fix it. All of a sudden, their neighbour attended the parking lot on Vanier Drive, yelled at the man and entered the truck through the open passenger door. He assaulted the woman, exited the truck and returned to his apartment. The woman quickly exited the vehicle and called for help. She did not seek medical attention.
The 26-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault. He was released with conditions pending a future court date of March 29, 2016.

Yesterday morning, officers conducted traffic enforcement in Kent Bridge and also on Charing Cross Road.
Thirty-three (33) motorists were charged with speeding.
