Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 09Aug2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 132 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Man Charged with Mischief and Assault CK16025456

At approximately 1:10 a.m. this morning, police responded to the area of McNaughton Avenue and Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg in regards to a suspicious man. The intoxicated man was observed acting erratically and causing damage in the park. Upon police arrival, the man jumped onto the hood of the cruiser damaging the hood, windshield and roof. He continued to evade police and in doing so pushed a woman off her bike as she was riding, causing her to sustain minor injuries. Another woman observed the incident and tried to intervene. She sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital as a precaution. The man was taken into custody by police at 1:13 a.m. behind a business on Dufferin Avenue and transported to police headquarters.

The 19-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with three counts of mischief under $5000 and two counts of assault. He will be released when sober pending a future court date of August 30, 2016.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK16025383

On August 3, 2016 the man was observed to be in a parking lot close to his former girlfriend’s residence in Chatham regardless of being on conditions not to be within 50 meters of her home. He fled the area prior to police arrival and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the man and he was arrested. The 20-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to comply and breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Attempt Theft of Bus Batteries in Chatham CK16025341

Sometime between August 5, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. and August 8, 2016 at 6:45 a.m. unknown suspect(s) damaged a fence at the First Student Canada property on Currie Street and attempted to steal 12 bus batteries valued at $1900. The batteries were recovered on the property and returned to the complainant.

Break and Enter in Chatham CK16025353

Sometime over the weekend, unknown suspect(s) forced their way into the Entegrus substation building on Richmond Street causing about $400 damage. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole copper and porcelain fuses along with 2” copper bars of various lengths, copper wiring and lead bars made by Canada Metal. Total value of the theft is estimated at $2000.

Heat Warning in Effect

Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for Chatham-Kent starting today through until Friday.

Please stay hydrated and cool. Check on elderly neighbours and family members or those who are chronically ill. Never leave pets or kids in a hot car.
