The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 107 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested.
Man Charged with Child Pornography Offences – CK17000386
Earlier this week, the Chatham-Kent Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit became involved in an investigation surrounding the possession and distribution of child pornography.
Yesterday, police executed a search warrant at a residence on Sandys Street in Chatham. A number of electronic devices were seized for analysis.
A 38 year old Chatham man was arrested and has been charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Making Available/Transmitting Child Pornography. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.
Woman Arrested for Shoplifting – CK17000820
In the early morning hours of January 04, 2017, a woman was captured on video surveillance inside a variety store on Grand Ave in Chatham. She was observed to conceal approximately $40 in items in her purse and then leave without paying for them. Police were contacted and the woman was able to be identified.
Last night the woman was located at a residence on Emma Street in Chatham and placed under arrest. Vanessa Vandeven, 26 years, of Chatham has been charged with Theft Under $5000 and Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000. She was released from custody with a future court date.
Man Arrested for Theft and Bail Violations – CK17000533
On the night of January 04, 2017, the man attended a bar in Chatham. While present there he removed a wallet from the bar that a woman had set down, concealed it in his pants, and left the bar. The wallet contained approximately $300 in cash and various pieces of ID. Police were later contacted to investigate the incident.
Through investigation the man was able to be identified. He was then also found to be bound by a recognizance with conditions not to be outside of his residence between the hours of 11 PM and 6 AM.
Last night the man was located and placed under arrest. A 27 year old Chatham man has been charged with Theft Under $5000 and Fail to Comply with Recognizance. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.
Boat Fire near Wallaceburg – CK17000848
Early this morning Police and Fire responded to a fire on Bluewater Line outside of Wallaceburg. Upon arrival it was found that a boat had been set on fire along the river bank. The cause of the fire was deemed suspicious. The incident remains under investigation.

Break and Enter in Chatham – CK17000854
This morning at approximately 2:20 AM, a woman was in her residence on Sussex Street in Chatham. Upon hearing noise coming from her kitchen she attended and located an unknown male with a dark hood inside her residence. Upon seeing the woman, the man immediately fled from the residence. He was unable to be located by responding officers. It was believed that nothing had been stolen.
