Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 08Feb2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 58 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Super Bowl RIDE Program CK16003196

Last night, officers conducted RIDE spot checks across Chatham-Kent.

612 vehicles were stopped and checked. Three roadside breath tests were administered. No one was arrested for impaired driving.

Man Charged with Theft of Motor Vehicle CK16003164

Sometime yesterday between 3:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. the man stole a 2015 red Mazda 5 hatchback from a residence on Wellington Street West in Chatham. The car was last seen with Ontario license plates BWRY 983.

Around 6:40 p.m. last night, an off-duty officer observed the man driving the stolen vehicle on Richmond Street. Officers responded to the area and a traffic stop was initiated on Park Avenue near Keil Drive. The man was apprehended and upon being searched incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of crystal methamphetamine.

The 27 year-old-man of no fixed address has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000 and drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Arrested from Wanted List CK16003185

On January 28, 2016 police responded to a residence in Chatham in regards to an assault complaint. Through investigation, police learned that during an argument, the man spit food in a woman’s face. The man fled prior to police arrival and a warrant for his arrest was issued for the offence of assault.

Yesterday around 2:00 p.m. the man attended police headquarters and turned himself in. Jeffrey Rushlow, 57 years, of Grand Avenue East in Chatham was released pending a future court date of February 17, 2016.

Police Looking for Drone Owner CK16003179

On February 6, 2016 around 2:00 p.m. a white Quanum Nova FPV quad copter drone crashed into the rear yard of a residence on Crystal Drive in Chatham. The drone sustained damage, however is valued at approximately $500.

Police would like to return the drone to its rightful owner. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Paul Pomajba at [email protected]

Man Charged with Being Intoxicated in a Public Place CK16003184

Yesterday afternoon around 1:50 p.m. the intoxicated man attempted to enter a home that was not his. Officers located the man on Phyllis Avenue in Chatham and determined that he was unable to care for himself. For his own safety, the man was taken into custody.

The 36-year-old Chatham man was charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He was held in custody until sober.
