The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 126 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Man Charged with being in Possession of Break-In Tools CK16012236

This morning, just before 6:00 a.m. police responded to a report of a suspicious person at Chatham Warehousing on Patteson Avenue in Chatham. Officers located the man carrying a backpack and he was arrested for trespassing. Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of wire cutters, wire strippers, screw drivers, pry bars, wrenches and crystal methamphetamine.

Devon Orton, 24 years, of Gray Street in Chatham was charged with drug possession and being in possession of break-in tools. He was released pending a future court date of May 26, 2016.

Man Charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm CK16012202

Last night, an argument escalated into a physical altercation between the man and his common-law wife at their residence in Raleigh Township. The man assaulted the woman and punched the window of her van as she fled the residence with the children to a place of safety. The woman contacted police and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Assault with a Weapon CK16003912

On February 16, 2016 an argument began between the man and a family member at a residence in Harwich Township. The incident escalated into a physical altercation as the man sat on the family member and held a pillow on his head. The family member was able to free himself and a warrant was issued for the man.

Yesterday, the 52-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. He was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Break and Enter in Wheatley CK16012145

Sometime yesterday between 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. while the homeowners were outside doing yard work, unknown suspect(s) entered their home and stole $2000 worth of jewelry and cash from a wallet.

Break and Enter in Chatham CK16012121

Sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, unknown suspect(s) forced their way into Lundy Insurance on St. Clair Street causing about $600 damage. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a black Acer laptop valued at $800.
