Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 01Dec2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 141 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Eleven people were arrested.

Police Execute Search Warrant CK16040632

Yesterday, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section, with the assistance of the Critical Incident Response Team, executed a warrant at a residence in Harwich Township.

Two rifles, a shotgun, a loaded .22 caliber revolver and .22 caliber air rifle along with ammunition were located and seized.

A 60-year-old man and 36-year-old woman were charged with being in possession of firearms contrary to their Prohibition Order.

A 47-year-old man was charged with two counts of failing to comply as he was in possession of a weapon and not living at his court ordered address.

All three were transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Driving While Disqualified CK16040800

This morning, just before 3:00 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed the man, known to him as a prohibited driver, driving on Grant Street in Chatham. The man pulled into a private driveway on Wellington Street East and fled on foot.

While running, the man was observed throwing money, methamphetamine and cocaine onto the ground. The officer followed the man as he ran into a nearby house. The man was located by police hiding under a bed on the second floor of the residence.

The 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified, two counts of failing to comply, breach of probation and two counts of drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Yesterday, police requested the public’s assistance in identifying a man who attempted to steal $800 worth of tablets from Walmart on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Last night, the man turned himself in to police. Corey Zazvorka, 27 years, of King Street East in Chatham was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.

He was released pending a future court date of December 21, 2016.

Traffic Enforcement

Yesterday afternoon, members of the Traffic Unit conducted speed enforcement in Port Alma.

In just an hour and a half, 16 motorists were stopped and charged with speeding.

Constable Doug Cowell adds, “We would like to remind all drivers that road safety is everyone’s responsibility and that includes being aware of the posted speed limits. Please watch your speed and slow down in rural residential areas.”

Break and Enter in Dresden CK16040695

Sometime over the past weekend, unknown suspect(s) forced their way into the Dresden Raceway Grandstands on North Street.

Once inside, the suspect(s) broke beer bottles all over causing about $500 damage.

Theft of Patio Heaters in Chatham CK16040729

Sometime over the past couple weeks, unknown suspect(s) stole two Patio Plus heaters from the Imperial Club on Payne Street.

Each heater was equipped with a 20lb propane tank, stands approximately 8’ tall and weighs about 75-100lbs. Total value of the theft is estimated at $2000.

Theft of Street Signs in Ridgetown CK16040554

Over the past week, street signs across the town have been stolen, specifically two sets of one way signs on Harold Street.

The Chatham-Kent Police would like to remind those stealing these signs, that this is not only a criminal offence, but it puts all motorists at risk at being involved in a collision.
