Chase Hackwell – Drunk Driving, Hit and Run, Pedestrian Airlifted To Hospital

On Thursday November 1, 2012 at 2:05 a.m., Guelph Police received a report that a pedestrian was struck on Gordon Street South Guelph and that the responsible vehicle fled the scene. Investigation revealed that the vehicle continued southbound on Gordon Street when it failed to negotiate a turn onto University Avenue and struck a utility pole. The vehicle sustained extensive damage, and the suspect fled the scene on foot. The suspect then hailed a cab and left the area.

The suspect was located a short time later at a residence Puslinch and arrested. He was treated for minor injuries sustained in the collision.

The 21-year-old male victim from Barrie initially treated at the Guelph General Hospital and later airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital’s trauma unit, where he is undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

Damage to the vehicle and utility pole is estimated at $25 000.

Chase HACKWELL 21 years of Puslinch was charged with Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Failing to Remain at the Scene of a Collision Causing Bodily Harm and Failing to Remain at the Scene of a Collision in relation to collision with the utility pole. He was held for a Bail Hearing.
