Charges laid in robbery/noxious substance discharge

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has charged two suspects in connection to the November 23, 2015 incident aboard an OC Transpo bus.

On that date, at approximately 1:30 pm, the two suspects met aboard an OC Transpo bus. The victims, and at least one of the suspects, were known to each other. At a point during the conversation, one of the suspects made a demand for property in possession of the victim. When the victim denied the demand, the suspect removed a can of bear repellent being carried by the co-accused and sprayed it at the victim. In the process, five other passengers were cross contaminated. The driver stopped the bus and the two suspects fled. The five passengers and the victim were assessed on scene and four were transported to hospital by EMS for treatment. The two suspects were arrested a short time later, in the area, by responding patrol officers.

At the time of the arrest, stolen property from an unrelated incident was recovered from one of the accused.

A 17 year-old male and a 17 year-old female, both of Ottawa, are jointly charged with the following offences:

Robbery

Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence

The male is additionally charged with the following offences:

Administer noxious substance

Assault with a weapon

Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public

Carrying a concealed weapon

Possession property obtained by crime

Breach probation x 2

The female suspect is additionally charged with the following offences:

Possession of a weapon dangerous

Carry concealed weapon

Breach probation x 1

Both suspects will appear in court on November 24, 2015.
