Charges laid in recent robbery spree in the South end of Ottawa

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid a series of charges in connection to four recent swarmings in the South end of Ottawa.

On November 27, 2015 at approximately 7:45pm, a lone male victim was accosted by three suspects along the 2500 block of Kaladar Avenue. One suspect was armed with a knife. A demand was made for the victim’s property. The suspects fled with an undisclosed item belonging to the victim. There were no injuries.

On November 30, 2015, there were a series of three swarmings in the same area:

A footpath near 2870 Cedarwood Drive at approximately 9:35pm

1200 block of Walkley Road at approximately 10:00 pmWalkley Road/Jasper Avenue at approximately 10:35pm

In each case, lone male victims were approached by two suspects, one armed with a knife. Demands were made for personal property being carried by the victims. In two of three cases, suspects fled empty-handed. Two of the victims were assaulted but did not require further medical attention. The suspects were arrested by responding Patrol officers a short time later.

Investigation has led to charges also being laid in connection to the November 27, 2015 investigation.

One adult and one young person are now charged in relation to these four robberies.

Hakim ABDU KER, 19 years old of Ottawa, is charged with the following offences:

* Four counts of robbery

* Four counts of uttering threats

* Four counts of carrying a concealed weapon

* Four counts of possession of a weapon

A male youth, 15 years old, also of Ottawa, is charged with the same series of offences.

Both suspects will appear in court on December 1, 2015.

Investigators continue to seek a third suspect in connection to the November 27, 2015 investigation.

That suspect is described as being a black male, approximately 19-25 years of age, approximately 6’3” (191 cm), brown eyes, English speaking with no accent. At the time he was wearing a black Adidas track jacket.
