Charges laid in pharmacy robbery on Bank Street

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges in connection to a pharmacy robbery.

On October 28, 2015, at approximately 11:00am, a lone male suspect entered a pharmacy situated along the 2400 block of Bank Street. The suspect, disguised and armed with a handgun, confronted two employees and made a demand for various prescription drugs. The suspect obtained an undisclosed quantity of drugs and fled to a waiting vehicle.

The vehicle was located by patrol officers in the area of St-Laurent Blvd and Walkley Road where the driver refused to stop for police. A short pursuit occurred that ended a short time later, in heavier traffic, in the area of Walkley and Lancaster.

The two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody by patrol officers without incident. There were no injuries and no damage stemming from the robbery or the pursuit and arrests. An imitation handgun was recovered at the time of arrest.

The driver of the vehicle, Brian TOWELL, 25 years old of Ottawa, has been charged with the following offences:

Two counts of Robbery

Using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence

Wearing a disguise

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

Failure to stop for police

Mr. TOWELL appears in court on October 29, 2015.

The vehicle passenger was later released without charge.
