(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges in a reported 2014 pharmacy robbery.
On October 26, 2014, at approximately 1:55 pm, a pharmacy robbery was reported having occurred along the 500 block of Rideau St. A lone male suspect entered the pharmacy, armed with a knife, and made a demand for prescription drugs. The suspect allegedly fled the premises with a large quantity of prescription drugs. There were no injuries.
An investigation was undertaken by the Ottawa Police Robbery Unit. During the course of the investigation, robbery investigators were assisted by the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
As a result of the investigation, on June 9, 2015, the complainant in the robbery, was arrested and has been charged. Waseem SHAHEEN, age 44 of Ottawa, has been charged with the following offences:
Public Mischief
Fraud exceeding $5000
Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
Trafficking in a Schedule I substance
Mr. Shaheen appeared in court on June 10, 2015. His next court date is scheduled for June 25, 2015.
“We take the matter of armed robberies very seriously”, stated S/Sgt. Michael Haarbosch of the Robbery Unit. “When versions of events in a robbery as reported to the Police turn out to be not completely credible, we will pursue the matter with equal vigour.”
