(Ottawa)— The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is investigating a downtown swarming that resulted in one suspect being stabbed.
On September 8, 2016, at approximately 10:40pm, plainclothes officers were involved in an unrelated investigation in the area of the 300 block of Murray Street, when they were approached by a person who indicated that he had been stabbed.
A short time later, another call for service was received by a person reporting he had been robbed of his wallet, at gunpoint, by three suspects, and that he had stabbed one of the suspects.
The victim of the stabbing was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital in stable condition. The victim of the robbery was arrested at the scene in relation to the stabbing. He was interviewed and released without charge.
On Friday afternoon, the hospitalized victim was arrested in relation to the robbery. The robbery victim was uninjured.
James SHEMA, 19 years old, of Ottawa, has been charged with the following offences:
Robbery
Pointing a firearm
Carrying a concealed weapon
Possession of a weapon
SHEMA was remanded into custody by telephone on September 10, 2016.
The investigation is ongoing. Two additional suspects are still being sought in connection to the robbery. There are no descriptors available beyond the suspects being black males, 17-21 years of age.
