Charges laid in home invasion on Somerset Street

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges in connection to a home invasion that occurred yesterday.

On April 9, 2015, at approximately 5:20pm, two female suspects attended an apartment at a building situated along the 300 block of Somerset Street. W. The females attended the apartment of a male, in his late 60’s, and knocked at the door. When the occupant answered, the suspects demanded entry. When the occupant refused, the suspects forced their way into the apartment. One suspect forcibly restrained the victim as the second suspect searched and took a small quantity of cash. The suspects were arrested in the area a short time later by patrol officers. One of the suspects was known to the victim. There were no injuries.

Karen Rheaume, age 49, and Carrie-Ann Burns, age 46, both of Ottawa, are jointly charged with robbery, break & enter, and forcible confinement. Rheaume is additionally charged with two counts of breach of probation. Both subjects appear in court on April 10, 2015.
