Charges laid in home invasion on Barrette Street

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges against four people in connection to a recent home invasion.

On April 7, 2015, at approximately 9:25pm, police responded to a residence situated along the 100 block of Barrette Street after someone was seen exiting a residence with a gun. One of the suspects entered the building carrying a gun and attended at the victim’s door. When the victim answered the door, a demand was made for money. The suspect fled the premises, empty handed, when it became evident that Police had been called. The vehicle, with four occupants, was located and stopped by patrol officers a short time later. A prohibited long gun was recovered from the vehicle.

All four suspects were initially charged jointly with Attempted robbery and Conspiracy. They appeared in court on April 8, and were remanded into custody. Additional charges have now been laid in this investigation. The following is a synopsis of all charges laid.

Peter MCFARLANE, age 33, Stéphane CHAPUT, age 26, Christopher LARUSSA, age 28, all of Ottawa, and Cody MCRAE, age 20 of Braeside, are charged jointly with the following offences:

Two counts of Attempted robbery

Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence

Use firearm in the commission of an offence

Careless handling of a firearm

Possession of a firearm knowingly not holding a licence and registration certificate

Occupy a motor vehicle with a firearm

Possession of a prohibited/restricted device

Peter MCFARLANE is additionally charged with the following offences:

Pointing a firearm

Use firearm in the commission of an indictable offence

Careless use of a firearm

Cody MCRAE is additionally charged alone with the following offences:

Possession of a firearm while prohibited

Breach of probation

The suspects are scheduled to appear next in court on varying dates from April 15-17, 2015.
