Charges Laid In Bear Mace Incident

Location: Webling Street (0-100 Block)

Incident: On Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at approximately 12:20 p.m. the victim was walking along Tom Street when he was approached by a Silver Pontiac Grand Prix which contained 4 people. One of the men in the vehicle asked for a cigarette and the victim responded that he did not smoke. The victim continued on his walk, but was approached by the vehicle again on Webling Street. When the victim approached the vehicle he was sprayed in the face with bear mace. The vehicle then left the area. Community Patrol Officers were contacted and investigated. The man was treated by ambulance at the scene but did not need to attend the hospital. Officers were not able to locate the vehicle at this time. At approximately 2:45 p.m., the victim was in Victoria Park when he observed the suspect vehicle and the person responsible for spraying him with bear mace. He contacted the Brantford Police Service who attended and arrested the man without incident. As a result, a 23 year-old Brantford man is charged with Assault with a Weapon and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon. The bear mace was seized as evidence. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date.
