(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a novice driver with a variety of offences after he was stopped for impaired driving earlier this week.
At approximately 2:43 p.m. on April 21, 2015 a Huron OPP officer’s suspicions arose after seeing some poor driving from a driver behind the wheel of a Chevrolet pickup truck. The officer began to follow the pickup truck northbound on Bronson Line out of Dashwood and while following the pickup, the driver was observed swerving in his lane and hitting the gravel shoulder.
The driver was subsequently stopped and upon speaking with the male driver the investigating officer observed several signs that he was impaired by alcohol.
At that point the driver was arrested for Impaired Driving and was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his readings registered over the legal limit.
Upon searching the pickup, police located an open container of alcohol. In addition, while inspecting the pickup officers found multiple safety concerns with the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver was charged with Operating an Unsafe Vehicle.
As a result, 33 year old Chad RODGERS from Lucan Biddulph Township has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Operate Unsafe Vehicle, Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor and Novice Driver B.A.C Above Zero. He now has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on June 1, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
