Cell Phone Use Results In Numerous Charges For Suspended Driver

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – A West Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) traffic officer was on patrol in Listowel on Thursday February 18, 2016, when shortly after 1 p.m. he observed a Nissan sedan on Wallace Ave North whose driver was talking on a hand-held electronic device.

The officer pulled over the vehicle on Elizabeth Street East, east of Wallace Ave and a traffic stop was conducted. The 26-year-old female driver from Southgate Twp. was found to be under to separate Ministry of Transportation suspensions.

The driver was charged with the following four Highway Traffic Act of Ontario offences:

– Drive motor vehicle on a highway while using a hand-held wireless communication device

– Drive while under suspension (x2)

– Possess non-photo card portion of cancelled, revoked, or suspended licence

The driver was issued summonses to appear in Stratford Provincial Offences Court on March 22, 2016 to answer to the above noted charges.

The vehicle she was operating was towed from the scene and has been impounded for a period of 7 days.
