Cassandra MARTIN – Break and Enter, Stolen Property, Prohibited Weapon

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A 35 year old female from South Huron is facing criminal charges following an incident that took place in Centralia yesterday afternoon. At approximately 5:40 p.m. a homeowner from Portland Street observed a female standing in his porch holding a shopping bag of property consisting of tools and housewares. At first glance he thought it was a relative, however the intruder quickly took off running down the street. The owner realized what had just happened and chased after the suspect. The owner yelled at her to stop however she continued to flee. A short distance later the property owner and a neighbour were able to detain the female until police arrived.

The fleeing suspect was arrested and searched by police. In addition to the bag of stolen property a stolen cell phone and a prohibited weapon (stun gun) were found in her possession.

As a result, Cassandra MARTIN, (35), from South Huron has been charged with Break and Enter with Intent contrary to section 348(1)(a), Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a), Theft Under contrary to section 334(b) and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon contrary to section 91(2) all of the Criminal Code. She remains in custody with a Show Cause Hearing scheduled for August 12, 2013 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
