(HURON COUNTY & BRUCE COUNTY, ON) On December 4, 2011 at approximately 7:30 p.m. South Bruce OPP officers were dispatched to a report of a theft of gasoline from a gas station located on Elora Street in Mildmay, ON. Minutes later the suspect vehicle was observed on County Road 3 in Carrick Township. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver immediately took off running from the vehicle. A search of the area was conducted however the suspect was not immediately located.
Subsequent investigation revealed the involved vehicle, a Mini Cooper had been reported stolen from a car dealership in Toronto, ON. In addition, the attached licence plates had also been reported stolen.
On December 5, 2011 Huron OPP officers learned the suspect was hitchhiking in Huron County. At approximately 9:00 p.m. Huron OPP and South Bruce OPP officers attended an address in Bluewater, ON and arrested the male.
As a result, Manuel CORDEIRO aged 44 from Toronto, ON has been charged with the following offences: Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada, two counts of Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada, Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) Criminal Code of Canada, Flight from Police Officer contrary to section 249.1(1) Criminal Code of Canada, two counts of Breach of Probation contrary to section 733.1(1) Criminal Code of Canada and two counts of Fail to Comply with a Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) Criminal Code of Canada. CORDEIRO is currently in custody with a show cause hearing scheduled for Ontario Court of Justice -Walkerton on December 8, 2011.
