(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron OPP officers have laid criminal charges against an erratic driver that failed to stop for police. On June 19, 2012 at 4:36 p.m. Huron OPP officers received a traffic complaint from citizens reporting a green Jeep Patriot was observed travelling eastbound on Huron Road in an erratic manner. The driver was observed making unsafe passes at the same time as his passengers were hanging outside of the car windows.
Officers first spotted the Jeep travelling east on Huron Road west of Kinburn Line. Officers chased the suspect vehicle a short distance however in the interest of public safety the chase was discontinued.
Approximately 15 minutes later the suspect vehicle was spotted and safely stopped by a Perth County officer east of Dublin near Perth Road 170.
As a result, Cameron BERNIER, male, age 21, from Waterloo has been charged with Dangerous Driving, Flight from Police and Driving Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available. He has a court date scheduled for August 13, 2012 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
In addition, passenger Lisa IDE, age 21, from Waterloo was ticketed for Having Open Liquor and Failing to Wear a Seatbelt. Another passenger, Kyle PAETZ, male, age 22, from Kitchener was charged with Failing to Wear a Seatbelt and Being Intoxicated in a Public Place.
