(HURON EAST, ON) – A 38-year-old from Brussels is facing two criminal charges and a speeding charge following a traffic stop that took place earlier this week in Brussels. Just before 9:00 p.m. on June 14, 2016 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling northbound on Turnberry Street at a speed in excess of the posted 50 km/h speed limit.
A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was spoken to about his speed. While speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest for Drive a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit. Also, while in custody the driver threatened to cause physical harm to the investigating officer.
As a result, 38-year-old Bradley MAWHINNEY from Brussels has been charged with Drive a Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Utter Threats and Speeding. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 4, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
