(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted their Distracted Driving Campaign from March 8, 2014 until March 14, 2014. This campaign was part of a province wide OPP Distracted Driving Initiative.
The aim of this campaign was to eliminate the threat of distracted driving through its own awareness raising efforts and focused enforcement of distracted driving laws throughout the province. Police want to remind motorists of the inherent dangers of carrying out activities which take your attention away from driving. The number of distracted driving fatalities exceeded the number of impaired fatalities in 2013. Texting, handling electronic devices, eating and drinking, personal grooming and tending to children in the backseat are just some of these deadly distractions. During the week long campaign, officers paid extra attention to motorists who were involved in risky distracted behaviours that could result in serious or fatal motor vehicle collisions on our roads.
A total of 4 motorists were issued tickets for distracted related offences in Bruce Peninsula. As an ongoing effort to save lives on Ontario roads, Bruce Peninsula OPP will continue to enforce laws related to distracted driving throughout the year.
Distracted driving kills and we can all do our part to save a life by speaking up and by setting an example. Stay focused when driving. Stay safe.
