Brantford Police Major Crime Unit Make Arrests in Robbery Investigation

On Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 members of the Brantford Police Major Crime Unit, assisted by members of the BEAT Unit and Emergency Response Team conducted a robbery investigation involving a firearm.

The victim initially approached police in the downtown area, after being robbed at gunpoint of an undisclosed amount of money. Investigation revealed that the incident occurred inside a residence in the 100 block of Nelson Street. The male victim and accused are known to one another and were visiting occupants of the home at the time of the incident.

Shortly after the investigation began, an officer spotted the accused in the downtown area, and he was taken into custody. The 26 year-old Brantford man is charged with Robbery with a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited, Pointing a Firearm, and Using a Firearm while Committing an Offence.

On Thursday, August 25th, 2016 police executed a search warrant at the Nelson Street residence. As a result of the search warrant a 35 year-old Brantford man was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine.

The firearm used in the robbery was not recovered. Police are asking for anyone who has any information to call Detective Jordy SCHMUTZ at 519-756-7050 ext. 2206 or to call Crime Stoppers at 519-750-8477.
