Brantford Crime Briefs July 29, 2015

Type: Break and Enter (residential) – UPDATE

Date: July 16, 2015

Location: Cheevers Road

Incident: PREVIOUS MEDIA RELEASE – July 16

On July 15, 2015 a business contacted the BPS to report theft of their property. It was reported that unknown suspect(s) attended the construction site of new homes located on Cheevers Road. Suspect(s) stole five furnaces and five water heaters which were in homes currently under construction. The thefts occurred sometime within the last two weeks.

UPDATE

Five new homes under construction were entered sometime in the two weeks prior to the report. Stolen from the residences were five Lenox furnaces valued at $1,500.00 and five Envirosense heaters valued at $2,900.00. The total estimated loss is over $17,000.00.

Type: Break and Enter (residential)

Date: July 28, 2015

Location: Hansford Drive

Incident: On July 28, 2015 sometime between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. a home on Hansford Drive was broken into. A basement window was broken in order to gain entry. Jewelry and a Lenovo laptop were amongst the items reported stolen.

A suspicious man riding a bike was seen in the area around 11:00 a.m. The man is described as white, thin build, scruffy looking, between 18-25 years of age wearing a black long sleeve shirt and having a black backpack.

Type: Foot Pursuit – Arrest

Date: July 28, 2015

Location: 2 Icomm Drive – Skate Park

Incident: On July 28, 2015 at around 6:00 p.m. members from the Park Patroller Cycle Unit were on routine patrol at the skate park located on Icomm Drive. Park Patrollers observed a man consuming alcohol at the park and approached the man. The man, in attempt to obstruct the Patrollers provided a false name. The man then fled the area on foot. BPS Community Patrol Officers arrested the male at Colborne Street and Queen Street without incident. Investigation revealed that the man, a 19 year old from Erie Avenue was in breach of a recognizance. The accused was also found to have a small amount of marihuana on his persons. The accused was charged with Breach of Recognizance and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Type: Break and Enter Arrest

Date: July 29, 2015

Location: King George Road – Big Deals

Incident: On July 29, 2015 shortly after 4:00 a.m. the BPS received a telephone call from an alarm company advising of an alarm activation at the Big Deals business on King George Road. It is believed that the front glass door had been smashed out by suspects using a rock. Computer equipment was stolen. Shortly before 5:00 a.m. as results of a cooperative investigation between BPS Street Crimes unit and Community Patrol Officers a traffic stop was conducted with a vehicle on Colborne Street West. Two persons inside the vehicle were arrested for the Break and Enter at the Big Deals business. Property stolen from the business was recovered inside the vehicle. The items included a gym bag full of laptops which had the business logo stickers still affixed.

Two Brantford men aged 45 and 42 years were charged with Break and Enter, Theft under $5,000.00 and Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000.00. Both men were held in custody for a bail hearing.

The BPS requests citizens to report all crimes and suspicious activities which take

place on your property. All thefts from your motor vehicles should be reported to

the BPS regardless if items are stolen.
