Incident # 40686-15
Shortly after 6 a.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2015 the Brantford Police Service responded to a disturbance on Pearl Street which resulted in a 19 yr old male being injured and taken to the Brantford General Hospital for injuries sustained in the disturbance.
The incident began around 4am as the victim was walking down Pearl Street. The victim was suddenly grabbed from behind in a blitz style attack. The victim was taken to a nearby house where he was repeatedly assaulted by a group of males over an extended period of time. Two long-gun firearms were seen during the confinement. The victim was then taken to a second location, where he was again assaulted and released by the suspects. The victim was transported to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
Investigation revealed that this was not a random attack, and this incident was likely the result of earlier events as the victim was questioned about the whereabouts of his associates.
The residence where the male had been taken and confined was surrounded by police as they awaited a search warrant for the residence. Due to the lack of information if the suspects were still inside, and the fact that the suspects were seen with firearms, the Emergency Response Team contained the scene and several residents were asked to leave and a local church service was cancelled.
The Brantford Police Service have arrested one 20 yr old Brantford male in relation to the assault. The male has been charged with several Criminal Code offences including; Assault with a Weapon, Robbery with a Firearm, Kidnapping, Forcible Confinement, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Using a Firearm while Committing an Offence and Breach of Probation. The male is being held in custody, pending a bail hearing.
Members of the Emergency Response Team and Major Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a Pearl Street address for evidence in relation to this investigation after the warrant was signed around 11pm Sunday evening.
Police are continuing to investigate this matter, and further and are attempting to identify other suspects.
At this time Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Amber Jackson at 519-756-7050 ext 2271 or Sergeant Grant Davies at 519-756-0113 ext 2274
