Brantford Crime Briefs – August 13, 2015

Type: Domestic Assault

Date: August 12, 2015

Location: Marlborough Street and Charlotte Street

Incident: On August 12th, 2015 at around 5:30 p.m. several citizens dialed emergency 9-1-1 to report a man and woman fighting on the street.

Investigation revealed that the accused a 21 year old male and his 19 year old girlfriend were driving in a car in the area of Grey Street and Clarence Street having a verbal argument. The accused stopped the car for a red light and the woman opened up the passenger side door and attempted to exit the vehicle not wanting to argue anymore. The accused grabbed the woman’s hair pulling her back into the car, holding her against her will and accelerated away with the passenger side door still open. A physical confrontation continued inside the vehicle and the vehicle stopped on Marlborough Street where the victim escaped and ran to a home to find help. The accused followed the victim and attempted to pick her up and carry her back to the car. The woman screamed for help and local residents came to the woman’s aid and separated the two until BPS arrived.

The accused, a 21 year old Brantford man was arrested and charged with Assault, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Forcible Confinement. The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Type: Break and Enter (residential)

Date: August 13, 2015

Location: Chatham Street (300 block)

Incident: On August 13th, 2015 at 1:35 a.m. an emergency 9-1-1 was received from a resident on Chatham Street regarding a break and enter in progress. Investigation revealed that the homeowners heard noises and believed someone was breaking into their home. One of the homeowners went to investigate and he confronted a man who was breaking into the shed. A struggle ensued where the victim received minor injuries. The accused fled the area on foot leaving behind a bag containing break and enter tools. The seized property will undergo expert forensic testing.

Type: Break and Enter (residential)

Date: August 13, 2015

Location: Brighton Avenue

Incident: On August 13th, 2015 at 1:36 a.m. a resident on Brighton Avenue dialed 9-1-1 to report that her husband had discovered an unknown man in their garage and the accused became physical with her husband. Investigation revealed that during the physical confrontation a neighbour heard and observed the struggle and came to assist. The suspect fled on foot and the neighbour gave chase last seeing the suspect turn the corner on Gordon Street. BPS continued searching for the suspect and found him hiding in a backyard on Gordon Street. The accused was arrested without incident. The accused was also responsible for at least two vehicle entries in the area and had property on him and in a backpack he was carrying which belonged to owners of the other vehicles. Further a small amount of pills were found on the accused. The accused a 29 year old Brantford man is charged with;

Assault

Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000.00

Theft under $5,000.00

Break and Enter with Intent to Commit

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Fail to Comply with Undertaking

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

The BPS does not encourage citizens to confront trespassers on their property.
