On Wednesday, May 18th, 2016 at approximately 5:30 p.m. police responded to a report of a stabbing that occurred in the area of the Grand River behind Earl Haig Waterpark.
Police learned that an adult male victim was alone at the river when he encountered the male suspect, who was unknown to him. Both the victim and suspect were fishing near one another when the suspect took issue with the victim and a confrontation ensued.
The situation escalated to a point in which the suspect picked up a knife and stabbed the victim in the leg. The victim attended the hospital where he was treated and released.
The Brantford Police Canine Unit assisted Major Crime & Patrol Officers with a search for evidence in the area. At this point, police are attempting to identify the suspect.
The suspect is described as a white male in his late 40’s, approximately 6’ tall, with a grey beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a jean jacket and blue jeans.
ARREST: On Thursday, May 26th, 2016 the Brantford Police arrested and charged a 43 year old Brantford man with Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. The accused and the victim were unknown to one another.
The male is being held pending a bail hearing. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

Locations: Grey Street
Incident: On the 26th day of May, 2016 at 4am, police observed a large hole in a window of a Grey Street business. It appeared that entry was gained and four bottles of liquor were taken. The suspect appeared to have left through the back door. Police are continuing their investigation.
Type: Aggressive door to door salesmen
Locations: North of Dunsdon Street
Incident: On May 26, 2016 around 1pm, police were contacted regarding two males that were trying to get inside homes in the North end of the City by stating that they worked for the Ontario Government. Police located the two males, who turned out to work for a company out of Mississauga known as Smart Home Works”.
The males were warned of their aggressive sales technique and sent on their way.
Police remind residents that no one is allowed to enter your home to inspect anything without judicial authority. There are certain laws that allow Police and Child protection agencies to enter for the well being of people and children
