Brantford Crime Briefs – 12July2016

On July 8, 2016, at approximately 4:00 p.m., members of the Brantford Police Street Crimes Unit attended an Elgin Street address to conduct a search warrant and arrest a man. Upon seeing police walking up to the residence, the man fled and a foot pursuit ensued. The man ran to a residence on Marlborough Street and broke in to evade police. The homeowner attempted to contact police, however the man grabbed him and prevented him from doing so. The homeowner was able to break free and contact police. The man fled the residence and proceeded to break into another home on Nelson Street. Once inside this residence, he was approached by the homeowner to leave. The homeowner was pushed and fell into three chairs. A visitor of the residence was also shoved into a doorway. The man fled the Nelson Street residence and broke into another Nelson Street home. Once inside he told the homeowner that someone was chasing him. The man heard that police were close by and ran from the residence. The man fled to Wellington Street where he was located by police and arrested in a driveway.

As a result, an 18 year-old Brantford man was charged with the following offences:

1 count Possession for the Purpose of trafficking

1 count of Proceeds of Crime

1 count of Breach of recognizance

3 counts of Break & Enter

3 counts of Assault

4 counts of Breach of Probation
