Type: Arrest- Fraud, Stolen Credit Card

Locations: Henry Street

Incident: On Tuesday April 5, 2016 a Henry Street company received an order for 22 thermostats. Each thermostat is valued at $250.00. The purchase was paid with a Visa card over the phone. The total amount of the purchase was $6215.00. The order was to be filled by May 10, 2016. Between the time of order and the delivery date it was learned that the credit card had been reported stolen.

On Tuesday May 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., Police followed the delivery of the 22 thermostats to an address in Toronto. When the delivery driver arrived at the address in Toronto, there was no one at the home identified as receiving the package. Prior to the delivery driver leaving, a vehicle arrived and the driver identified himself as the person that had made the order. With the assistance of the Toronto Police, officers from the Brantford Police Fraud Unit attended and arrested the male as he was placing the thermostats into his car. During the search of the arrested male, additional credit cards and debit cards not belonging to the male were found on him. It was then learned that the male was on a court recognizance with conditions to not to possess any identification card with a data strip or security chip, credit or debit card, credit or debit card data, a blank card with a magnetic strip, cheque, negotiable instrument or banking document.

The 26 yr old Toronto male was transported back to Brantford, and will be appearing for a bail hearing at court this morning charged with Fraud Over, Breach of Probation, Breach Recognizance, and possession of Stolen Credit Card. The thermostats were returned to the Henry Street company.

Type: MVC – Arrest- Impaired

Locations: Edinburgh Court

Incident: On Tuesday May 10th, 2016 at 1:35pm a VW Golf was observed at a high rate of speed on Edinburgh Court in the city of Brantford. The driver lost control of the motor vehicle and mounted a curb and struck a street lamp knocking it over and causing significant damage to the vehicle and pole. The driver then fled the scene of the collision.

Witnesses assisted police in locating the driver of the vehicle, who was just down the street from the scene of the accident. The driver, who was under 22yrs old (*not to have any alcohol in their system) was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving. Once taken to the police station he registered more than 1 ½ times the legal limit. The 20 yr old Brantford man has been charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80, and Fail to Remain, Fail to report damage on a highway. And being a novice driver have blood alcohol above zero.
