Brantford Crime Briefs 10Feb2016

Type: Theft of tools from construction trailer

Locations: King George Road and Powerline Road

Incident: Police are investigating after approximately $15,000 of tools were taken from a construction site trailer sometime overnight on February 8th and 9th

Type: Arrest- Fire alarm pulled

Location: Henry Street

Incident: On Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 at approximately 9:10pm Police attended to the apartment building located at 149 Henry Street in regard to a report of a fire alarm being pulled in the apartment complex when no fire was present.

Police had the opportunity to review video surveillance and observed two males exiting the apartment complex via the front door. The first male passed straight through the door without incident. The second male activated the handicap button for the door and then immediately reached up and pulled the fire alarm for no reason. As a result of the fire alarm being pulled the five storey building was evacuated and causing inconvenience to a large number of tenants. Furthermore, the fire department were dispatched unnecessarily wasting valuable community resources. The suspect was identified as a person that police have had a number of dealings with in the past.

A 41 yr old Brantford man, who does not live in the apartment, was charged with false fire alarm and has a pending court date to face the charge.

Type: Break and Enter

Locations: West Street

Incident: A witness reported a rock thrown through the window of a jewelry store on market Street around 3:44am. Officers arrived within seconds and found that the culprit had fled after breaking the window and did not enter the store. Patrols checked the area with negative results. Police are still attempting to learn the identity of the person performing the night-time break ins to stores throughout the entire city.
