Brantford Crime Briefs – 09Mar2016

Type: Robbery

Locations: Linden Ave.

Incident: On Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 09:04 hrs a robbery occurred at Mister Convenience (Linden Ave). A lone masked male, approximately 20 yrs old, wearing a black zip up hoodie that concealed his face, and blue jeans, entered the store carrying a knife, he demanded money from the store clerk. Unknown amount of case was stolen from the cash register. The lone female clerk in the store was not harmed.

The robber was last seen running from the store and falling on the roadway as he was making his escape. Evidence left at the scene was seized by detectives and is being examined by Forensic Identification officers.

Type: Arrest- Shoplifter

Locations: Home Depot

Incident: On June 10, 2015, two persons were observed by store staff as they selected items with a flat shopping cart, worth seven hundred sixty-five dollars ($765.00).

Both persons walked past the cashiers without making any attempt to pay for the items on the flat shopping cart. Both accused were then observed as they placed the items into a vehicle and left the property in the same vehicle together. Both persons were later identified as they had been involved in similar type of occurrences across the greater Toronto and Hamilton area.

On October 7, 2015, both persons attended the same store in Brantford and used a shopping cart to select numerous items, with a total value of two thousand two hundred eighty dollars ($2280.00). On this occasion once again, both accused left the store as they walked past the cashiers and made no attempt to pay for the items.

This time, loss prevention were working in the store and approached both accused in the parking lot area. Loss prevention attempted to advise both that they were under arrest, at which point both fled from loss prevention, leaving the stolen items behind. Police issued warrants for both men.

On Tuesday March 8, 2016 one of the two accused men, a 48 year old Toronto man turned himself into Brantford Police. The male will appear in bail court today facing charges including two counts of Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code Section 334(b).

Type: Arrest- Shoplifting and Resist Arrest

Location: Freshco – Market Street

Incident: On Tuesday March 8th, 2016 at 01:30 P.M., a 30 year old Brantford man attended the Grocery Store. The male was observed selecting meat and hiding it. The male then proceeded out of the store without paying for the item. Once approached by store security out front of the store and advised that he was under arrest, the male picked up a large stick, held it in the air and threatened the loss prevention officer. The male then left the parking lot and was observed by police walking down the street, still carrying the stick. Police arrested the male and charged him with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000, Weapons Dangerous, Utter Threats to Person, Assault with the Intent to Resist Arrest, and Assault with a Weapon. He will be attending bail court to answer to the charges on today’s date.

Type: Disturbance – Arrest for Domestic Violence

Locations: Chatham Street

Incident: On Friday, the 4th of March, 2016 a female was assaulted by her common-law boyfriend. On Tuesday March 8th, 2016 the female victim contacted her brother at approximately 5pm who attended to the residence to contact police and report the domestic assault.

As the concerned brother was attempting to call the police, the boyfriend attempted to stop the brother from calling and smashed the brother’s cell-phone and began to assault the brother. A fight ensured and neighbours called the police who attended and separated the two males.

The boyfriend, a 52 yr old Brantford man was taken to the Brantford General hospital for his injuries sustained in the fight and then was transported to the station facing charges of domestic assault. He will be attending bail court on today’s date. The victim’s brother received no injuries during the altercation.

Type: Arrest- Theft

Locations: Brock Street

Incident: Around 3:00am on March 9, 2016 Police were contacted that a 42 year old Brantford man, known to police for thefts, was observed on a porch on Brock Street screaming that someone had assaulted him. The caller indicated that the male was observed to have facial injuries. Police attended to the area and found the male riding his bicycle which had a small trailer attached.

Upon police speaking to the male, they found a 5’ ladder that had been stolen from a residence on Brock Street. Police investigation determined that the homeowner had caught the man stealing the ladder and attempted to stop him, however, the accused got into an altercation with the homeowner. The homeowner protected himself and the accused received facial injuries, and then fled the area with the stolen property. The ladder was returned to the proper owner and the 42 Brantford man is facing charges including Trespass By Night, Assault, Theft Under, Possession Under and Breach of Probation. He will be attending a bail hearing on today’s date.
