Type: Drugs/Recovered Vehicle
Incident: 548-16
Location: Mount Pleasant Street
Details: On January 5, 2016 shortly before 4:30 p.m. members from the BPS Street Crimes Unit observed a Cavalier pulling into a driveway on Mount Pleasant Street with two occupants. The vehicle had been reported stolen on December 28, 2016 from the Brantford area. The suspect in the theft incident was the son of the registered owner. Officers approached the vehicle and arrested both occupants for Possession of Stolen Property. The driver was identified as the owner of the vehicles son. The driver (accused #1) was arrested and found to be in possessions of meth-amphetamine.
Accused #1, a 55 year old Brantford man stands charged with Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.00, Breach of Probation, Driving While Disqualified X3 and Possession of Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Accused #1 was held in custody for a bail hearing.
The second occupant, accused #2, a 33 year old Brantford woman was arrested and found to be in possession of two Hydromorph capsules and two Dilaudid tablets. Accused #2 stands charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of Substance X2 contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances.
Accused #2 was released on a PTA.
Further, during this incident an Officer recognized a man visiting the residence on Mount Pleasant. The man was currently wanted on two separate arrest warrants for Breach of Probation and Breach of Recognizance. The accused #3 a 27 year old Brantford man was arrested without incident.
Accused #3 was taken to the Brantford Police Service and on arrival he was observed attempting to discard pills in the back seat of the police cruiser.
Accused #3 was found to be in possession of eight hydro-morph pills contained in a Kinder Egg package hidden in his rectum area.
Accused #3 stands charged with 3 additional counts of Breach Probation and Possession of Controlled Substance.
Accused #3 was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Type: Property Damage
Incident: 625-16
Location: 1 Market Street
Details: On Wednesday January 6, 2016 the property manager from 1 Market Street reported damage to the parking gate. Sometime over the last several evenings unknown person(s) broke the parking gate arm and made attempts to pry open an attached steel box. The building manager also reported that the empty steel box has been damaged several times in the past. It is suspected that the culprits believe money is stored inside the box.
Type: Fraud Alert – Commercial
Incident: 657-16
Details: On January 6, 2015 two local businesses contacted the BPS to report being the victim of fraud. There have been at least three businesses in total who have become victims of this type of fraud.
The common theme is that the businesses forward a cheque via mail to a company with a small value amount and sometime during the delivery the cheque is intercepted and not delivered to the intended recipient. On at least three incidents the original cheque’s value amount and recipient’s name is changed. One business cheque amount was originally authorized for around $900.00 and altered to read $19,000.00. A second business cheque originally authorized for approximately $100.00 was changed to read $173,000.00. On the second incident the company’s financial institution contacted the company inquiring as to the validity of the cheque value. The Brantford Police Service is notifying the community while they gather more information regarding this incident. We wish to remind everyone the value of protecting yourself from fraud and suggest that you regularly review your banking transactions through online or telephone banking. If you see a transaction you didn’t do, notify your bank immediately to investigate.

Type: Commercial Theft
Incident: 680-16
Location: Wade Avenue
Details: On January 6, 2016 it was reported that unknown persons had stolen copper flashing from a property on Wade Avenue. Reported stolen was between 100-120 feet of copper flashing from the roof area.
Type: Damage to Property
Incident: 715-16
Location: Donegal Drive
Details: On Wednesday January 6, 2016 at around 9:30 p.m. a resident from Donegal Drive contacted the Brantford Police to report damage to a motor vehicle which had been parked on the street. A watchful eyed neighbour had spotted two male youths around 8:30 p.m. who appeared to randomly target parked vehicles on Donegal Drive. The youths were observed kicking at the vehicles side mirror. The neighbour yelled at the youths who fled on foot northbound into Donegal Park. The officer spoke to several neighbour’s learning that a similar incident took place the evening before on Tuesday January 5, 2016. On this evening two youths were observed riding bikes and kicking at parked vehicles. The youths are believed to be the same in both incidents.
The officer observed two vehicles belonging to two different homeowners from Donegal Drive that had been damaged by the youths. One vehicle had the side mirror entirely smashed off and the other vehicle the glass was broken. The suspects are described as two male youths wearing dark hoodies and dark pants.
