Brantford Crime Briefs – 04April2016

Type: Impaired Driver

Incident # 16-11251

Date: April 1, 2016

Incident: On Friday, April 1, 2016 at approximately 4:40 p.m. a man drove his vehicle through parking lot on Diana Avenue toward another man, causing that man to jump out of the way to evade the motor vehicle. The man had to be transported to the Brantford General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries as a result. The driver did not remain or offer any assistance. He then drove to a parking lot on Colborne Street West where he drove into a parked car. The driver left the parking lot and subsequently made his way to Brant Avenue where he continued to drive at high speeds. Witnesses observed him failing to stop of stop signs, driving into oncoming traffic, and driving up on to the sidewalk in a residential area. The driver then drove to Grand River Avenue and drove into the rear of another vehicle causing minor injuries to the two occupants. After a brief argument with the two occupants, the driver used his motor vehicle to push the other vehicle out of his way. Numerous 911 calls were received regarding the collisions. Community Patrol Officers investigated and located the driver on Brant Avenue, where he was stopped and arrested. The driver displayed signs of impairment upon arrest. He was taken to the Brantford Police Service where he provided samples of his breath as required by law. The results were two readings of 191 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. The legal limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. The accused, a 22 year-old St. George man was subsequently charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Impaired Driving, and Over 80 mg. He was released on a Promise to Appear for a future court date. The vehicle was impounded for a mandatory seven day seizure.

Type: Assault with a Weapon

Incident # 16-11281

Date: April 1, 2016

Incident: On Friday, April 1, 2016 at approximately 9 p.m., Community Patrol Officers were contacted to attend an address in regards to two brothers fighting. Investigation revealed that a man had attended his residence after consuming alcohol. Once there, he engaged in an argument with his brother, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation. The two then went outside the residence and continued to fight. While outside, the man brandished a knife and attacked his brother with it. The brother was not injured and gained control of the knife. He then stabbed the man in the left buttock. The man was taken to the hospital where he received treatment for his stab wound. As a result, both the brothers were arrested. A 16 year-old Brantford man was charged with Possession of a Weapon, Assault with a weapon, and Assault cause bodily harm. He was held for a bail hearing. A 20 year-old Brantford man was charged with Possession of a Weapon, Assault with a Weapon and Fail to comply with Recognizance. He was held for a bail hearing.

Type: Domestic Dispute

Incident # 16-11326

Date: April 2, 2016

Incident: On Saturday, April 2, 2016 at approximately 5:40 a.m., Community Patrol Officers were contacted to attend an address in regards to a domestic dispute. Investigation revealed that the accused returned home after a night of consuming alcohol. Once home, he became very agitated at the fact that his girlfriend had a friend spending the night. The accused then began destroying his apartment by smashing his belongings. The girlfriend and her friend attempted to calm the accused down, when he slid a couch in front of the door preventing anyone from leaving. He then threatened to kill the two victims by saying they were not allowed to leave alive. During this, he had a large hammer and was hitting the walls and door. He then threw a bedframe trying to strike his girlfriend, however it missed. Upon police arrival, the accused could be heard threatening his girlfriend stating that she is dead. As a result, the accused, a 24 year-old Brantford man was arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Forcible Confinement, and Intimidation. He was held for a bail hearing.

Incident # 16-11377

Date: April 2, 2016

Location: Dalhousie Street (200 Block)

Incident: On Saturday, April 2, 2016 at approximately 2:50 p.m. the accused was in a residence on Dalhousie Street when he was asked to leave by the victim, who lives there. The accused was told to leave twice, at which point he grabbed a knife, pointed it at the victim and said leave or I will stab you”. The victim left the residence and contacted Community Patrol Officers for assistance. Police attended
