Brantford Crime Briefs – 02May2016

Type: Arrest- Impaired Driver

Locations: Nelson Street

Incident: Late Friday night, a pickup truck was put out for location to Brantford officers in reference to an impaired driver. Subsequent information received was that the driver of the same pickup truck attended a downtown bar and was refused entry due to his intoxication. Staff of the bar called police to report the male driver was impaired and had left in a pickup truck. The same description of the truck previously given out as a possible impaired driver was provided by the bar. This time, the license plate was also provided.

On Saturday April 30, 2016 at approximately 210am , an officer observed the pick-up truck driving eastbound on Nelson Street on the wrong side of the roadway driving right at the officers car. The pickup swerved to avoid a collision with the marked cruiser and pulled into a driveway on Nelson Street. The driver immediately fled from the vehicle.

Officers located the intoxicated man hiding behind a concrete wall and peering at officers that were near his truck. This male, who had keys to the truck and was subsequently the registered owner of the pick-up, and was arrested for impaired driving.

At the station the male registered 1 ½ times the legal limit. A 20 yr Vanessa man has had his pickup seized and drivers license suspended and will attend court in the future to face the charges of impaired and over 80.

Type: Arrest- Theft from Motor Vehicle

Locations: Wellington Street

Incident: On Saturday April 30th, 2016 at approximately 230am a homeowner confronted a male that had broken into his vehicle while parked on Wellington Street. The 16yr old male, who had been drinking, was held until police arrived. Upon arresting the male, jewelry belonging to the registered owner of the vehicle was found on the offender. Further investigation revealed that the male had attempted to steal the vehicle in addition to looting it.

The 16 yr old Brantford man has been charged with breach of an undertaking, theft under $5000, possession of stolen property, Attempt theft of a motor vehicle, and mischief. He will attend a bail hearing this morning in Brantford court.

Type: Arrest- Intoxicated person

Locations: Grand River

Incident: Brantford Police were called to the Grand River behind the Casino on Saturday evening around 7:40pm regarding a male laying in the Grand River. The male who was fully clothed was found by police to be intoxicated. Although officers tried to help the man to dry land he was combative and was subsequently arrested and brought to cells. A 38 yr old Oshweken man spent the night in cells to sober and dry off. He was released in the morning.
