Detectives looking to identify suspect caught on camera after theft of Bobcat equipment
On April 19, 2016, staff members at Bobcat Canada received phone inquiries by a man who said he was looking to rent a number of pieces of equipment to use for a construction job in the Burlington area. The man specifically asked if there were Bobcats available and then indicated he would attend to rent them. Later that day the man entered the Bobcat Canada store located at 370 McNeilly Road, provided his information and paid for the rentals of the equipment.
The heavy equipment, which consisted of two (2) Bobcat machines (excavator and a skid loader) were then delivered to a Burlington address the next day. The man did not return the equipment and an investigation commenced with the Hamilton Police Service being contacted. There has been no contact from the suspect since this date and no sign of the now stolen equipment valued at over $60,000
Through investigation it was determined that the initial payment method was completed using prepaid credit cards. The suspect purchased the prepaid credit cards from the Shoppers Drug Mart store located at 484 Plains Road East in Burlington. It is believed that the information provided to rent the equipment was also false.
Detectives are hoping that someone recognizes the man captured on camera purchasing the credit cards used to complete the theft of these machines. The suspect may have access to a dark coloured 4 door vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet model.
