(NORTH HURON, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huron County Crime Unit has made an arrest in the robbery of a Blyth gas station. A twenty one year old male from Huron County is in police custody.
At around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday February 28, 2012, officers from the Huron County OPP responded to a robbery at the Radford Fuel Station on Queen St in Blyth. It is alleged that a male suspect entered the fuel station kiosk while the lone gas bar attendant was inside. The unknown male began taking money from the cash register. The attendant attempted to restrain the male which resulted in an altercation that continued outside the kiosk. The suspect was able to break free and fled the area on foot; he was last seen walking east on King St towards Mill St in Blyth. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash prior to leaving the scene. The store clerk was not injured.
On Thursday March 1st, 2012, Benjamin CALDWELL (21 years), from Huron County was arrested and has been charged, with one count of Robbery contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code. CALDWELL is to appear in Provincial Court, Goderich on Friday March 2, 2012 for a bail hearing.
