Blown Tire Nearly Cost Lives

(Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh, ON) On August 26, 2009 approximately 5:45 pm a vehicle was being operated eastbound on Blyth Road approximately 1 km east of Hwy 21. The vehicle was being driven by a 17 year old Huron East girl. Her mother and younger sister were passengers. A motorist traveling behind the car watched as the left rear tire popped off the car and bounced into the field. The driver attempted to control the car but was unable. She entered the ditch and struck a small tree and then she struck a second tree nearly wrapping the vehicle around the tree. The driver had to be extricated by fire fighters.

The road was closed for a period of time as police investigated. What was initially thought to be a potentially devastating collision turned out to have serious consequences but not life threatening. The driver and two passengers were taken to the Goderich Hospital for treatment.
