Beware Of Con Artists

(SOUTH BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP is sending a reminder to area residents that scam attempts are made daily. Fraudsters are developing more and more sophisticated schemes to try and take your money. During a recent attempt in Perth County, a scammer pretended to be an employee of a collection agency and provided the name of a legitimate collection agency. The scam was recognized and no money was sent. In March 2011, a resident of Lambton County received a call to notify the “winner of a brand new car and substantial cash prize”. This elaborate scheme involved call transfers to a “supervisor” and a “company manager” and successfully collected money. “Beware of unsolicited phone calls, emails, letters, faxes and strangers at your door and never be pressured by high pressure tactics demanding you to ‘act now…its today only’. It’s your money, you work hard for it, so don’t hand it over to a con artist.” Anyone interested in more information on Fraud can call the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501 or online at http://www.antifraudcentre.ca.
