(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Listowel is investigating the theft of a park bench from the North Perth Trail.
The investigation reveals that sometime between 6 p.m. Friday May 13, 2016, and 8 a.m. Saturday May 14, 2016 unknown persons removed the granite bench. The bench had been located on a cement base on town land south of the intersection of Riverview Dr. and Havelock Ave. S. in Listowel.
The memorial bench weighs several hundred pounds, is made of grey granite and has engraving on the backrest stating the following: “In memory of Tom and Mary Turbitt, 1893 – 1979, 1893 – 1995. Born County Monaghan Ireland”.
The value of the bench is approximately $3,500.
“It was disturbing to hear about this theft, as this is an item with extreme sentimental value to the Turbitt family, and was something that was placed there for the entire community to enjoy.
