(Oro-Medonte, ON) – From Friday December 2 at 6:00PM to Monday December 5 at 6:00AM, Barrie OPP received 34 calls for service. These calls varied from domestic Complaints to Drug Offences to Motor Vehicle Collisions to Traffic Complaints and Traffic Enforcement.
Of note are the following occurrences:
On Saturday December 3, 2016 at 1121 AM an Officer was conducting Radar observation of traffic on Highway 11 near Line 1 when he observed a motor vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. The Officer conducted a traffic stop and after investigation the 16 year old female driver from Barrie was charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle at 142 km/hr in a 90 km/hr zone contrary to section 172(2) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The 2003 Mazda was impounded and her G2 Drivers Licence was suspended. She was issued a Part III Provincial Offence notice with a future court date.
On Sunday December 4, 2016 at 1215 AM a Barrie OPP Officer conducted a traffic stop on Shanty Bay Road and upon speaking to the female driver detected a strong odor of marihuana in the vehicle. After investigation the Officer seized a quantity of marihuana. The 30 year old female driver from Shanty Bay was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. She was released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date.
On Sunday December 4, 2016 at 1:28PM an Officer was a general radar patrol on Highway 400 in the southbound lanes near Penetanguishene Road. The Officer conducted a vehicle stop with a vehicle that had been observed at a high rate of speed. After investigation the 54 year old male driver from Scarborough was charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle (151 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone) contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. The 2012 Chevy Traverse was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence was suspended for seven days. The male driver was issued a Part III Provincial Offences ticket with a future court date.
There were 3 motor vehicle collisions over the weekend with two of them causing property damage only.
On Monday December 5, 2016 at 12:22AM a single motor vehicle collision occurred in the southbound lanes of HWY 400 near Partridge Road. A 1998 ford had been southbound when it lost control and rolled into the ditch. The 30 year old male passenger from Toronto was transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with minor injuries. After investigation the male passenger was charged with Failing to Comply with Recognizance and was issued an Appearance Notice with a future court date.
