On Saturday, March 5, 2016 at approximately 1:14 a.m., police responded to a hotel on Hart Drive in the City of Barrie in regards to an intoxicated male who was not registered as a guest at the hotel.
On arrival police learned the male the 21-year-old male had become physical with hotel staff and other hotel guests while wandering the hallways. Police placed the male under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place and transported him to the Barrie Police Service where he was held until sober.
Occurrence Type: Impaired Driver’s Still Taking A Risk

On Saturday, March 5, into the early hours of Sunday morning, Barrie Police arrested and charged five drivers from the City of Barrie for impaired driving and over 80.
It began early Saturday morning just after 8:00 a.m., police received a call for a single motor vehicle accident, investigation found the male to be impaired/over 80. Later on that morning police arrested a second male for impaired driving/over 80, he had been found driving within the City. Later in the evening another three drivers were arrested for impaired/over 80, and a female was issued a 3-day licence suspension for registering a “warn” on a roadside screening device.
The Barrie Police Service is committed to road safety, and will continue to protect drivers and pedestrians through traffic enforcement and arresting those who choose to drive impaired by drug of alcohol.

Police responded to a fire early Sunday morning on March 6, 2016. The home on Carruthers Crescent, in the City of Barrie, quickly became engulfed in flames; residents were safely evacuated.
Barrie Fire Services notified the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, who has determined carless smoking inside the residence, was the cause of the fire.
The Barrie Police Serivce is no longer investigating the incident.

Occurrence Type: R.I.D.E. Leads to Several Criminal Code Charges

On Sunday, March 6, 2016 police conducted a R.I.D.E program throughout various areas, within the City of Barrie.
Several criminal charges were laid, resulting in vehicle impoundments and drivers licence suspensions.
The following charges were laid:
A 35-year-old male from Essex was arrested and charged with impaired driving and over 80. He also received a 3-day licence suspension, and a 7-day vehicle impoundment.
A 43-year-old male from Barrie was arrested and charged for driving disqualified, as he was a prohibited driver for life. Further investigation determined he was breaching his recognizance, as he had not been in the company of his surety. He was later released on a promise to appear and the vehicle he had been driving was seized for 45-days.
A 24-year-old Barrie male operating a taxi cab approached the R.I.D.E program and upon lowering his window an enormous odour of marijuana became evident to police. The male was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and released on an appearance notice, and will appear in a Barrie court in April. A total of 8 grams of marijuana was seized.
