Occurrence Type: Serious Motor Collision

Date: Tuesday, August 18, 2015 – 8:19pm

With last evenings heavy rainfall and severe weather Barrie Police responded to over 5 motor vehicle collisions within the city, this does not include the number of collisions reported to the Accident Reporting Centre.

One of the collisions required the presence of Police, Fire and Ambulance. This occurred at approximately 8:19 pm at the intersection of Ferndale Drive and Hawthorne Crescent. A red pick up truck was travelling south bound on Ferndale Drive as a white Acura was travelling northbound on Ferndale Drive in what is alleged to be in the south bound lane. This resulted in a head on collision.

Both vehicles had extensive damage and airbags were deployed. The driver of the white Acura, a 20 year old male received serious chest injuries and was air lifted to a Toronto Hospital. The passenger a 17 year old female received a broken arm and was transported to the Victoria Regional Health Centre.

The Barrie Police Traffic reconstructionist attended the scene. The intersection was closed for approximately 5 hours.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

Occurrence Type: Assault With A Weapon-Bear Spray

Date: Monday, August 17, 2015 – 2:24am

On Tuesday August 18th, 2015 in the early morning hours, approximately 2:24 am, the victim, a 16 year old male from Barrie was walking in the area of the St. Vincent Bridge overpass in the City of Barrie. It was at this time that an acquaintance of the victim, 22 year old male from the Barrie area, walked up to the victim and sprayed him in the face with bear spray.

The victim suffered redness and a burning feeling to the face and eyes. He also had difficulties breathing. He attended the police station to report the incident. The victim stated that the male responsible for the attack feels that he may have stole some of his belongings when he was incarcerated.

The victim was treated at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

Police are still investigating the incident and attempting to locate the male responsible.
