Occurrence Type: Groceries Amounting to $590 Stolen

On Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 6:40pm Police were called by Lost Prevention from Walmart located at 450 Bayfield Street, in the City of Barrie, who noticed something suspicious. A male and female were spotted selecting various items in large quantity from the grocery area of the store and putting them into bags in their grocery cart. The keen eye of the two Lost Prevention Officers paid off when both parties exited the store making no attempt to pay for the items in their cart. The pair took flight pushing the grocery cart across the parking lot but Lost Prevention shortly caught up, placing the parties under arrest. The female stayed put while the male attempted to flee the scene. He was stopped by Police a short distance away as they pulled up on scene.

The stolen items amounted to over $590.00 and the pair were both charged with Theft Under $5000 and Possession of Stolen Property. The 38 year old Midland female was released on an Appearance Notice with a court date of February 29th, 2016. The 31 year old male, also a Midland resident, was wanted on an outstanding warrant from OPP and was handed over to them. He is also expected in Barrie court in February to answer to the shoplifting charge.

Police arrested a 51-year-old Barrie male for uttering threats and mischief under $5,000 on Wednesday, January 6, just after midnight.

The incident had taken place at a residence on Carlton Road, in the City of Barrie. The male had become involved in a verbal argument with another resident within home, which led to several threatening statements and a broken window, as a result of the male losing his temper and punching the window.

Neither party involved was physically injured. The male will appear in bail court Wednesday morning.
