Occurrence Type: Impaired Driver Attempts To Flee From Police

On Tuesday, April 5, 2016 just before 1:00 a.m. police observed a pick-up truck leaving an adult establishment on Dunlop Street in the City of Barrie before exiting southbound on Highway 400. The vehicle began drifting within its lane of travel and crossing into another lane. The vehicle continued to travel southbound while straddling lanes of the 400 Highway.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, although the driver refused to stop and continued travelling southbound and eventually exiting at Innisfil Beach Road in the town of Innisfil.
A second attempt was made to stop the vehicle safely, although the driver refused to stop and continued to travel northbound on the 5th Side Road. The vehicle then turned into the parking lot of Georgian Downs Casino and eventually stopped.
A 44-year-old Bradford male was arrested for impaired driving and flight from police. He was transported to the Barrie Police station and provided breath samples.
He has been charged with impaired driving, over 80 and flight from police. A 90-day licence suspension and 7-day vehicle impoundment was issued. He will appear in a Barrie court in April.
Occurrence Type: Panhandler receives Jail Time in Lieu of Cash

On Tuesday, April 5, 2016 just after 4:00 p.m. police observed a male panhandling on Mapleview Drive West at the on ramp to Highway 400 northbound, in the City of Barrie. The male had been holding a sign asking for money and approaching vehicles stopped at the traffic light.
Police quickly learned the male was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in March of 2016. He had been previously arrested and charged for theft from Freshco in February of 2016.
The 37-year-old Barrie male of no fixed address was transported to the Barrie Police Station and will appear in bail court Wednesday morning.
Soliciting a person in a vehicle on a roadway is a Provincial offence under the Safe Streets Act and is a fine of $65.00.
Occurrence Type: Fail to Remain

Date: Saturday, April 2, 2016 – 8:00pm
The Barrie Police is seeking public assistance to identify a vehicle involved in a fail to remain.
On Saturday, April 2, 2016 between 8:00 – 8:15 p.m., the driver of a grey Volvo SUV reversed into a vehicle that had been parked at Red Lobsters restaurant, located at 319 Bayfield Street, in the City of Barrie.
The driver of the vehicle failed to remain on scene. The parked vehicle sustained extensive damage to the driver’s side door. Damage is estimated to be in excess of $2,000.00
Police have spoken to several witnesses, and the driver is said to be a male in his 70’s, and accompanied in by a female passenger in her 30’s.
It is believed the Volvo sustained a broken tail light, as pieces of the housing were located at the scene.
