Occurrence Type: Male Arrested on Warrant

On Tuesday, April 12, 2016, officers from the CORE unit located a male downtown Barrie just after 11:00 p.m. who had been wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The 20-year-old Barrie male failed to appear for a fingerprint date following his arrest for theft under $5,000 and breach of probation in 2013.

He was transported to the Barrie Police Station and later released and is to appear in a Barrie court in May.

After a lengthy two and a half year investigation, Barrie Police Service Fraud Unit has charged a 48 year old Midhurst female of Fraud Over $5000.

In September 2013 a resident of Barrie became aware of a fraudulent account that had been opened in his name. It was believed the suspect was a female acquaintance he had put trust into to deal with some business and residential loans. He believed the suspect took his personal information to open a secondary account. Further investigation showed loans for different amounts being deposited into this bogus account.

The victim became aware of the suspicious activity after being alerted by creditors that there was an outstanding balance on the loans. A review of his credit history came up with too many inconsistencies and brought the man to the Barrie Police Service to further investigate.
