Occurrence #: BA16013311
Date: Thursday, March 17, 2016 – 11:00pm
On Thursday March 17, 2016 many revellers were celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, which required police to step up patrol throughout the City of Barrie. Three males from Barrie in their twenties were arrested for public intoxication while downtown. They were transported to the Barrie Police Station and held until sober, and later released with a St. Patrick’s Day Commemorative Ticket – $65.00!
Aside from the downtown festivities Police also conducted R.I.D.E throughout the city and stopped approximately 475 vehicles. Three drivers’ were stopped and received a 3-day suspension, as a result of registering a “Warn” on a roadside screening device.
Despite the number of patrons coming from the downtown area, Police only arrested one motorist for impaired driving and over 80 just after 2:00 a.m. The vehicle caught the attention of police as it had been swerving from side-to-side while heading northbound on Bayfield Street. The driver, a 21-year-old male from Barrie was arrested and charged with impaired driving and over 80. He now faces a 90-day licence suspension, 7-day vehicle impoundment and a court date in April.
When the dust finally set as early as 4:00 a.m., many vehicles were observed to have been left overnight downtown. Thank you to those drivers that made the smart decision not to drive home impaired. This made for a fun and safe night for everyone!
