Barricaded Male In Custody

On January 11, 2016 at 3:54 p.m., the Guelph Police became involved in a mental health crisis call at 90 Carden Street. Police attempted to assist a 53-year-old male in distress but he became un-cooperative and barricaded himself in his apartment. Police set up the critical call command post and worked to negotiate with the man overnight. On January 12 at approximately 7:20 a.m., the Guelph Police Tactical and Rescue Unit was able to take him into custody. He was then transported to the Guelph General Hospital for an assessment.

Carden Street remains closed as the investigation continues but will open shortly.
