Bait Bikes In Guelph Leads To Arrests Of Thieves

During the week of July 11, 2016 members of the High Enforcement Action Team (Heat) initiated a project to target person(s) responsible for bicycle thefts in the City. On July 15, 2016 a bait bicycle was placed in the downtown core. This bicycle was under observations by members of Heat. This project led to three arrests.

At approximately 7:10 p.m., police observed a male ride up to the area of the bait bike on a bicycle. He damaged the bike in removing the cable and then quickly left the area. This male was known to police and he was arrested on July 16, 2016.

Stewart Letts, 25 years of Guelph has been charged with theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on August 16, 2016.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. a female and male were seen removing the lock on the bait bicycle and then stealing it. Both suspects were subsequently arrested. A search then discovered a small quantity of Crystal Meth.

Ronald Kirkbride, 37 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of stolen property, theft under $5,000, breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on July 18, 2016.

Jennifer Hill, 30 years of Guelph has been charged with mischief under $5,000, possession of stolen property, theft under $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance. She will appear in court on July 26, 2016.
