Bailey Blasts Rec Department

At the Town Hall meeting, the Knights of Columbus hall lease/agreement was approved by council. This new agreement has the Knights of Columbus paying about $1,000/month for “rent”. KOC are also responsible for the utilities and maintenance.

Councillor Bailey read a statement that was directed toward Pat Newson of the Rec. Department. Below are several quotes from his address.

“I find it hard to see even a glimpse of any controls in the department as it runs awry with problems both staffing, financial structure and no sense of a business plan.”

“So I will introduce a business plan for the rec department”

“First we shrink the staff at the complex back to where we were ten years ago”

“Get rid of the staff in the fitness centre”

“This will cut the cost of the complex in two, create $200,000 in savings”

Due to questions raised during the public gallery session, the Council has agreed to review the policy of charging North Huron residents a fee to drop off tagged bags of garbage at the dump. Several Councillors agreed that the current policy is unfair. As it is now, if you miss the garbage truck and take your own garbage to the dump, you have have to pay a minimum fee of $10, regardless of how many tags you may have on the bag.
