Members of the London Police Service issued 156 Provincial Offence Notices in relation to stop sign violations, during the month of August. The vast majority of these offence notices were issued in densely populated residential areas, where both Primary and Secondary Schools are prevalent. The intention of this specific enforcement was to ensure that motorists are operating their vehicles in a safe manner, within these school occupied neighbourhoods.
The timing of this enforcement was important as September is back to school month and with attending children both excited and distracted, London motorists need to remain vigilant in their practice of defensive driving habits. Day dreaming kids will once again be lining our sidewalks and crosswalks in the coming weeks and school buses will be back on the roads in large numbers.
If you are running late for work, make the right the choice and drive safely, even if it means you won’t arrive on time. The resulting lecture or stern look given by your boss in relation to your tardiness may cause you some anxiety or stress, but the alternative of a guilty conscious associated with being responsible for the death of a young student, would undoubtedly weigh much heavier on your mind.
